1. I have a modest sized estate, why do I need an estate plan?
   When we speak of ‘estate planning’, we describe the process of organizing an individual or couple so that their hand-picked people are empowered to step in and help in the event of death or disability. Good planning provides an alternative to the time/expense of the court system. Every person over 18 years will benefit from some form of estate planning. For example, students away from home at college should have powers of attorney in place for medical and general decisions in case of an emergency since they are legally adults. Likewise, these basic documents are often further supplemented with wills and trusts for older adults to map out an orderly distribution of assets.
   
   
2. How long does the estate planning process take?
   Typically, two meetings of about an hour each.  It will take about 10 business days from the initial meeting (or when decisions are made) to signing the plan and related funding documents.
   
   
3. How much does an estate plan cost? Is there a charge for the initial consultation?
   The initial meeting is designed as an interview to determine your needs and the best plan to suit those objectives. There is no charge for the initial meeting. All estate planning fees are quoted in advance as a flat fee and alternatives are available to meet your budget. We strive to provide premium services for a very reasonable fee.
   
   
4. How do you charge for estate/trust administration services and business services?
   Certain business documents such as new incorporations or buy-sell agreements are quoted and billed at a flat rate. For all other services, we bill hourly, with our rates quoted and approved in advanced.
